Maryland (DMV) rapper, songwriter, producer, and multi-hyphenate, Phil Adé (Philip Adetumbi) returns after a five year hiatus with his new single “M.I.A.” from his upcoming independent eponymous album, philip, slated for release October 1st via Seenic/UnitedMasters.
“M.I.A.” sets the tone for philip, ushering in a bold new chapter as Adé intentionally steps into himself, creatively and personally. The track introduces a laser-focused Phil Adé, delivering laid-back bars with a seamless flow that spotlight the everyday choices shaping his evolution—protecting his business, moving with confidence, and no longer seeking outside validation. The accompanying cinematic visual captures Adé cruising through Los Angeles with nostalgic ease, flanked by a tight circle, carrying himself with intention at every turn.
Phil Adé shares, “I recorded ‘M.I.A.’ in the middle of the pandemic at a time when being out of the way felt like the theme of my life—but I wanted it to still be high energy and motivational”. He adds “I’m back, fully in control of my career, and there’s nothing or no one stopping me now but me.”
Now fully independent, philip isn’t just a comeback—it’s a reclamation. The project captures Adé’s resilience and growth, showcasing his sharpest and most authentic storytelling to date as he embraces full creative autonomy. “I have complete confidence that who I am and what I create is enough,” he says. “I no longer seek outside validation, nor do I answer to anyone but myself when it comes to the business of my music. I’m free in more ways than one. This album is about me stepping into my own as a person and as an artist—my art is enough.”
