Rapper Charlie Wayy, known for his raw sound and lyrics that share his experiences growing up in the South Bronx, goes on location to the strip club to show the lighter, fun side of his album DAFUN (Did A Lot For U Niggas) in his video for “Mary Poppins.”
“‘Mary Poppins’ is a step away from lyrical sparring and braggadocious raps. It’s more of a description of an encounter with a stripper and the conversations that are had,” Charlie explains.
His recent album DAFUN puts listeners right in the shoes of a kid who grew up in the very diverse, yet equally rough and poverty stricken, streets of the Bronx. The album explores everything from the pain of watching self-destruction in his community to the moral and small triumphs of day-to-day life.
“I want people to get to know the real me. I don’t want to put up a facade, I just want people to know who I am, where I come from and what I offer.”
Not only does he have a lot to offer the culture, he delivers. His lyrics are consistent with who he is and his hustle matches his flow. Charlie Wayy can be found on features with out-of-state artists (Texas artist Keith Harvey and The New Blvck from Detroit) and on stages throughout New York City.
The “Mary Poppins” video is now live on YouTube as well as available for streaming and download along with the rest of the DAFUN album on all major music outlets.
