André 3000 Rules Out OutKast Reunion: “We’re Further Away Than Ever”
André 3000 is shutting down hopes for an OutKast reunion anytime soon, revealing that he and Big Boi are “further away than ever” from making a new album. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, 3 Stacks opened up about the possibility of a new album or even a tour, and it doesn’t look promising for fans hoping for a comeback.
Reflecting on the past, André shared, “I’ll say maybe 10, 15 years ago, in my mind, I thought an OutKast album would happen… but I can say that we’re further away from it than we’ve ever been.” He explained that the chemistry needed for such a project just isn’t there anymore, and that creating rap music is tough for him. “It’s hard for me to make a rap, period,” he admitted. “And sometimes I’m in the belief of ‘Let things be.’”
He also shared his belief that not all art should last forever. “It’s not like we’re Coca-Cola, where it’s this formula that you can always press a button and it’ll happen,” he said, adding that fans sometimes don’t realize how much effort and timing it takes to create a successful project.
When asked about the possibility of a farewell tour, André was clear: “No, I doubt that. We did a tour in 2014. And I knew when I was, like, 25, that at a certain age I wouldn’t want to be onstage doing those songs.” He further emphasized, “I’m not a big fan of looking back. I’m grateful for everything that’s happened, but it was a time.”
Though fans were hopeful for a reunion due to OutKast’s hometown hosting the 2028 Super Bowl in Atlanta, André 3000 made it clear that the chances of a return to the stage are slim. In the past, city location hasn’t always influenced artist choice for Super Bowl performances, as seen with Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming headline for the 2024 game in New Orleans.
