“The Start,” the debut single from rising artist BRICK!, premieres today alongside an accompanying video.
“This song represents a new life cycle to me. When I made it, I teleported to a couple years in the future and imagined the song itself making me feel nostalgic about what’s going on right now. It’s a time capsule for me and a transparent expression of how my love of starting with someone new…or something new. The start of anything is almost always the part you’ll never forget,” says BRICK!.
Born in Los Angeles, BRICK! began making a name for himself as a songwriter and producer—of tracks like Baby Keem and Travis Scott’s “durag activity” and KYLE’s “iSpy” and “Playinwitme”—and creative director—for artists including Kehlani, Alessia Cara and Smino—while nurturing his own musical pursuits on the side. After a period of creative incubation, more music from the 24-year-old artist is imminent.
In 2020, BRICK! founded Black Sand—a surf and arts collective dedicated to representing, protecting and celebrating diverse surfers and creatives. As an avid surfer, he plans to highlight the often-overlooked intersection of Black Los Angeles and surf culture in his own music.
