OG Maco Dies at 32
Atlanta rapper OG Maco, best known for his 2014 hit “U Guessed It,” has tragically passed away at the age of 32. TMZ reports that Maco, whose real name was Benedict Ihesiba Jr., died on Thursday, December 26, after weeks in the hospital following a gunshot wound to the head, which was believed to be self-inflicted.
Maco had been hospitalized since December 12, falling into a coma shortly after the incident. Despite doctors’ efforts, his condition worsened, and he could not be revived. According to reports, medical professionals faced challenges conducting proper brain scans due to the toxins in his system.
Surrounded by family at a Los Angeles hospital, the rapper’s passing comes as a heartbreaking turn of events. Just weeks earlier, his family had shared an optimistic update on his health, stating, “We want to inform OG Maco’s fans, friends and supporters that he is currently in critical but stable condition. He is receiving the best possible care, and we are staying hopeful as he continues to fight.” They had also requested privacy while encouraging fans to send messages of support through direct messages.
OG Maco’s career was marked by early success and resilience through adversity. “U Guessed It” cracked the Billboard Hot 100 and solidified his place in hip-hop, leading to a remix featuring 2 Chainz and a spot in XXL’s 2015 Freshman class alongside Vince Staples and Fetty Wap. He was one of the first artists signed to Quality Control Music, the label that launched the careers of Migos, Lil Baby, and Lil Yachty.
Despite his talent, Maco faced numerous health challenges, including a near-fatal car accident and a battle with necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh-eating disease that caused significant facial disfigurement.
