Prince George’s County, Maryland artist Reggie Becton releases the official video for his latest R&B-tinged track, “LIFE.” The visual arrives after being teased via Becton’s twitter account last week.
Directed by Chris Felix, “LIFE” follows the rhythm of love. As Becton experiences a rush of euphoria from dancing with his lover, he sees firsthand that you can form an intimate connection with someone on the dance floor. The two-minute sequence is a visual narrative that gives Becton room to lose control and let his moves do all the work with an incredible routine, choreographed by Cherry.
On the new track, Becton explains:
“Originally, I planned to feature two trained dancers, but with encouragement from my talented choreographer, Cherry – who also stars as my love interest in the visual – I decided to showcase a more personal side of my artistry by stepping into the spotlight myself.”
Thematically, “LIFE” is about the time Becton spent with the girl of his dreams. It encapsulates the idea of dance as a love language, analyzing how nonverbal communication – like positive touch and mutual gaze – is key to developing a strong relationship.
One might even say that the critics agree, evidenced by the wave of support garnered from media outlets such as Soul Bounce, Def Pen, Rated R&B, and UPROXX for the single, which now has over 100K streams. The latter describes Becton’s first solo release of the year as “passionate and soul-driven R&B music.”
On top of all this, Becton is showing no signs of slowing down. He just co-penned songs for Alex Vaughn’s new EP, The Hurtbook: Homegirl Pack, with Summer Walker (“So Be It (Remix)”) and Ari Lennox (“Demon Time (Remix)”). Last weekend, he provided support for Sebastian Mikael’s ‘Phileo Tour.’ Plus, he’s been hinting at new music.
Needless to say, Reggie Becton is on pace to have a breakout year, proving that he has the intangibles required to thrive in today’s R&B space.
