The Weeknd Announces Release Date for “Hurry Up Tomorrow” Movie

The Weeknd is making big moves in the world of film. On December 20, the superstar announced that his psychological thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow will hit theaters on May 16, 2025. This marks a huge step for the artist, who will also be debuting the film alongside his upcoming album of the same name, dropping next month.

The movie is a collaboration with director Trey Edward Shults and stars Barry Keoghan, Jenna Ortega, and, of course, The Weeknd himself. Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) will also take on a major role in the film’s soundtrack, working with Daniel Lopatin on the score.

In a statement last month, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson praised The Weeknd’s multi-talented approach: “Abel is a visionary whose art cannot be confined by any single medium. With Hurry Up Tomorrow, in partnership with Trey, his musical universe expands onto the big screen with a psychological thriller that will usher in a new cinematic experience for fans.”

The film will coincide with Hurry Up Tomorrow the album, which is set to be the final chapter in a trilogy, following After Hours (2020) and Dawn FM (2022). The Weeknd teased the project with a cryptic statement, reflecting on the themes of time, change, and personal struggle: “Yesterday was 14 years ago… Attempted to cleanse the wounds with melodies and lights, a bulletproof bandage to shield what lies beneath.”

Fans are eagerly awaiting this new era, where Hurry Up Tomorrow promises to deliver both a musical and cinematic experience unlike any other.
