ABOUT TINA (HOODCELEBRITYY)
Born in Jamaica and raised in the St. Catherine Parish, Tina Pinnock (FKA Hoodcelebrityy), came to the United States as a pre-teen and embraced the culture and sounds of Hip-Hop while keeping close to her birth-given roots. Things began jumping off for Tina in 2015 with the release of her single and video “Wine Pon It” which went viral. Immediately following that post, Tina recorded her first single for a song called “Wine Pon It,” offering the world the official debut of her style, which blended the raw reggae of her Jamaican roots with the unrepentant East Coast rap swagger of her adopted home in the Bronx. She followed with further singles such as the trap-meets-dancehall minimalism of “The Takeover,” and took her songs live, opening for reggae-pop legend Shaggy among others. Her debut mixtape, Can’t Believe It’s Just a Girl, materialized in the spring of 2017 and she followed it quickly with her second mixtape, Trap vs. Reggae that summer. A more pop-minded single, “Walking Trophy,” dropped in November of 2017, softened a bit from the grittier tones of earlier material. It was included on the EP Inna Real Life, which arrived in 2018. “Walking Trophy” would propel her music career to international acclaim, resulting his various collabs and tours. Clocking over 60 million streams, “Walking Trophy” was only the opener of massive hits for Tina. In 2020 Tina would release “Bum Pon It”, which has become a viral TikTok sensation and highlighted her trajectory to pop sensation. Counting dancehall artist Vybz Kartel and rapper 50 Cent as her biggest influences, the ability to “deejay” or rap in dancehall vernacular and flip into traditional rhyming has become Tina’s calling card. She also has managed to inject the influence of trap music and merging it with dancehall deejaying, putting her above some of her peers who have tried to meld the genres in times past. Staying true to herself Tina continues to manifest happiness, fun and upliftment through her songs with recent releases like “Champion,” “So Pretty,” and “Run Di Road.” Tina has highlighted the importance of shining a light on the positivity in life and will continue to motivate and infuse fun in her music.
