New Orleans rapper Dee-1 releases new visuals for his single “I Don’t Want To Let You Down” off his album Slingshot David. Directed by Dee-1 (shot & edited by Ben Simmons), the video taps into the New Orleans streets where he tells the story of a musical subculture where kids support their families entertaining tourists in the French Quarters. This story is only one of the many stories that exist across the United States, where kids pitch in to help provide for their families.

“I chose this as the narrative for this song when I met Zedrick and his friends walking down Bourbon Street. It was so late and I couldn’t understand how these kids were out here oppose to being at home doing homework,” states Dee-1. “At this point, I felt that it was my duty to shine some light on a topic that is plaguing the youth.”

Dee-1 previously released the lead single “Hood Villains” that touches the issues that plague the urban communities and “Love Always Wins” ft. Sevyn Streeter. “I Don’t Want To Let You Down” is currently receiving airplay in Detroit, Columbia, and Toledo.

Over the years Dee-1 peaked the attention of hip-hop fans and the media with the release of singles like Jay, 50, & Weezy” and “Sallie Mae Back,” which garnered the attention of outlets like SiriusXM’s Sway In The Morning, Billboard, CNN, Okay Player, XXL among others. In 2014, Dee-1 appeared on BET’s Hip Hop Awards Cypher featuring Logic, Troy Ave and Lil’ Mama. Coming a long way from the cypher spot, Dee-1 hosted the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards Green Carpet. He appeared on Sway In The Morning where he killed “The 5 Fingers of Death” and had the internet talking as well as moved listeners with his interview.
