Greetings! This is a music of my song Drug Wars from my album Necessary Dissent. It questions and critiques various element of America’s war on drugs and its harmful effects. The war on drugs was started by the Nixon administration through legislation passed in 1972 as a reaction and a clamp down on the 1960’s counter culture movement. I address the fact that drug use is actually less in counties where drug laws and enforcement are more lenient and have a more rehabilitation approach as opposed to a punitive approach. I also raise the issue of how our urban communities are hit the hardest but yet none of the drugs used are grown or made in them. I argue that the war on drugs has become part of the prison industrial complex and if laws became more lenient than prisons would lose money. I employ everyone and everyone to pay attention to drug laws and upcoming legislation and advocate for more lenient laws focused on free recreational use and rehabilitation instead or prison drug possession.
