The track marks the songstress’s latest collaboration with 6LACK on the heels of 2019’s “Fav” and “Mushroom Chocolate” from her acclaimed LUCID EP. “MUSHROOM CHOCOLATE,” directed by Brilliant Garcia, buzzed hard with over 28.9 million Spotify streams, 11 million plays on the static audio, and 5.3 million YouTube views on the cinematic music video. It only hinted at the scope of the chemistry between QUIN and 6LACK, which comes into full focus on “SCORPIA” now.
In this latest dreamscape, the nostalgic medley depicts QUIN’s sonic rebirth, representing the sacred element of water as it pays homage to the Scorpio, the Pisces and the Cancer within. The film opens with “SEA OF SPACE”—a single from QUIN’s first independent project GALACTICA. The visuals show QUIN as an extraterrestrial in a dark abyss navigating through the “Sea of Space,” signifying self-discovery. The second scene features “SAILBOAT” from DREAMGIRL. QUIN serenades 6LACK as he begins to fall in love with her, while QUIN continues to unearth love and confidence from within herself. The surrounding melodies bridge the feelings of being lost and found, urging viewers not to make the same mistakes twice. QUIN and 6LACK conclude “SCORPIA” with “FAV.” The energizing yet tranquil soundscape serves as an invitation for 6LACK, welcoming him into a world that QUIN creates through her dreams. As QUIN leaves off, the “Ocean’s in the Sky” and the “Sea of Space” await on the other side.
Directed by Andres Burgos, “SCORPIA” precedes what’s come to come from QUIN and the “Fantasy Soul” universe. It also lands in the wake of 2021’s “crush.” The latter has amassed 718K Spotify streams and counting.
